CATALYST GRADUATES 2024

CATALYST is one of more than 21 Lotus Outreach projects that provide education, training, and care for the empowerment of women and girls. Since 2010, CATALYST has served 226 students with university scholarships, personal, and professional development, and helped to ensure professional skills-training pathways to 580 young women. Thank you for ensuring these students can pursue their dreams so that our world can be – at least in part – shaped by girls!

Hoeun Lyna

CATALYST Graduate

Major: English Literature, Build Bright University

In Her POV:  No matter where you are, never give up. There is always hope. If you give up, you will lose everything. Have a clear goal for life, live in the  moment, and live for the benefit of those who need you. Be strong, be kind, and be grateful…

“The CATALYST project has encouraged me to dream. I hope to be a talented teacher one day. I want to pursue a master’s degree, as well as buy a house and land for myself and my family. I hope to one day open an English school with my partner. Eventually, when the school is successful, I will establish a nonprofit for underprivileged girls to acquire new valuable skills. If there are underprivileged students that wish to enroll in the school, they could do so for free. My goal is to be personally successful so that I can one day give back to my family and community. In the future,  I hope to be of help to other girls in need.”

Tha Sreynith

CATALYST Graduate

Major: Khmer Literature, Royal University of Phnom Penh

In Her POV: In life, if you want to succeed in achieving your dreams, you must dare to try what you once thought was " impossible "“ Even if the results aren’t perfect, you’ll have already overcome your fears.

“I plan to pursue a pedagogical course at the National Institute of Education (NIE). My main goal is to successfully pass the pedagogy exam and become a licensed teacher at a public school. Currently, I’m also working as a teacher at a private school. I don’t expect I can change the world, but I will do my best to improve my family’s livelihood one step at a time. Additionally, I hope my work as a teacher will provide children with an education that serves as a foundation for their future.”

THORNG SANCHAY

CATALYST Graduate

Major: Information Technology

Royal University of Phnom Penh

In Her POV: These are the words I remember in my heart: If we stop studying because we are poor, our situation will only worsen. When looking toward a bright future, there is no better option than learning. We cannot rely on our parents or anyone else to help us but ourselves. So we must find every way to gain knowledge and live independently.

“I am currently a Banking Support Officer at KB Prasac Bank. I hope to create a secure and fulfilling life. It was not easy to be a girl from a broken family, however CATALYST has empowered me to focus on my education and dreams. I have developed the courage to seize opportunities and I am confident in ways I could have previously not imagined. I aim to accept my responsibilities, solve the problems in front of me, and to be flexible, diligent, patient, honest, respectful, and grateful. Many more moments will forge me into the person I am becoming. The growth I’ve experienced so far is the greatest success I have had in my life.

I dream of one day contributing to social reform. If I can educate my family, one day I will be able to positively influence society.”

Pum Triyanuth

CATALYST Graduate

Major: Computer Science, Norton University

In Her POV: “Poor people are hungry for knowledge! When we are born without wealth and don’t study hard, life becomes more difficult.”

“I have recently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Software Development from Norton University. I am currently a System Support Officer at Toyota Cambodia. In the next five years, I aspire to advance to a management role, and one day, I would like to start my own business. People from home often praise me for my hard work, which they have witnessed. They even encourage their children to follow my example and to learn as I did. There are many children from my village who can work hard as I did. Overall, I can see the ways my actions have positively influenced those around me. My younger brother is also succeeding in school. I hope to encourage others to work hard and to learn. Knowledge is essential to our lives and can help others. I hope to help future generations of children.”
